Some of the fretboards get the ‘Infinity’ inlay in the scooped florida.

Oh Yeah! Ready for fretwire.

Oh Yeah! Ready for fretwire.

It never ceases to amaze me how much work goes into each fretboard. In many ways, the fretboard requires more work than the top and back plates.

Jason… hope you approve. This one’s yours!

Spring F5 – 9 – fretboard5

One of the fretboards gets solid silver plate inlaid as faux frets. Once the rest of the frets are installed and the binding is in place, it will be scooped.

Les Paul Body Blank

Well…. the Old Growth River Recovered Honduras Mahogany body blank did not receive any bids.  The minimum bid was reasonable at the cost of the billet with no additional mark up for the labor to turn the billet into a useable body blank.

I put the blank on the store page for sale but have recently begun to process it into a Les Paul body.

Spring F5 – 7 – fretboard3

Instead of simply posting after the fretboards are bound and complete. I thought I would let you in on some of the in-between details you might not have known about.

Here I have dyed a couple of the fretboards.

What? Ebony is already black? Sorry, there are several types of ebony. I use macassar ebony for fretboards. I believe it is the easiest to work with and transfers the sound through the instrument better than the other ebonies.

Here is one of the fretboards, sans dye, next to the recently dyed fretboards. You can still see a bit of the grain in the dyed fretboards.
